The Hand of Fatima — Hamsa, Khamsa — is one of the oldest symbols of the Mediterranean and North African world. An open hand, facing outward. A silent protection. A presence that asks no permission.

I first knew it as a child, worn by someone I loved. I lost it. I found it again. And in finding it, I understood something I didn't yet know I knew. The hand is not only a symbol. It is the part of the body that creates. That shapes. That leaves a concrete mark on the world — in the things it builds, the people it touches, the gestures that are never forgotten. Through our hands, something deep takes root between who we are and what we do.

When I chose the Hand of Fatima for this bag, I chose the gesture. I chose creation. I chose everything hands know how to do, and the memory they carry with them. It is woven knot by knot, with cords commissioned to measure. The colours chosen by me, one at a time, before the first knot was even made. The hand-shaped handle is made of hand-hammered gilded brass, blow after blow, until the metal takes the right shape.
